THIS LISTING IS FOR A WONDERFUL VICTORIAN PERIOD ANTIQUE PAPIER MACHE STATIONARY HOLDER WITH BLOTTER, C. 1880s.
THIS LOVELY PAPIER MACHE HOLDER IS BEAUTIFULLY ADORNED WITH MOTHER OF PEARL INLAY AND ENAMELED FLORAL DECORATION.
THERE IS SOME MINOR CRAZING IN THE BLACK PAINT AND THERE IS SOME LOSS TO THE ENAMELING ON ONE OF THE FLOWERS ON THE FRONT. THE BACK HAS A COUPLE OF PAINT FLAKES AND SURFACE SCRATCHES.THE CENTER BINDING IS WORN BUT IN GOOD CONDITION AND REMAINS INTACT (SEE PHOTOS).
THE INSIDE OF THE HOLDER IS IN GOOD CONDITION. THERE IS SOME MINOR WATER MARK DAMAGE ON THE CORNERS AND SOME SLIGHT SEPARATION BETWEEN THE EXTERIOR AND THE INTERIOR.  ON EACH SIDE IS A FITTED COMPARTMENT FOR HOLDING PAPER AND/OR THE BLOTTER.
THE BLOTTER IS IN GOOD CONDITION SHOWING MINOR SIGNS OF USE. THESE BLOTTERS  WERE USED WITH DIP PENS TO ABSORB EXCESS INK TO PROTECT THE DESK'S TOP AS WELL AS TO KEEP THE INK FROM BLURRING ON THE PAPER.
THE LACQUER COVER WAS OPENED AND LAID FLAT WHILE IN USE AND ALSO STORED EXTRA STATIONARY.
MEASURES 9" TALL, 6 1/4" WIDE AND AND 7/8" THICK.
THIS IS A BEAUTIFUL EXAMPLE OF PAPIER MACHE WITH MOTHER-OF-PEARL INLAY WORK.  YOU WILL DEFINITELY LOVE THIS ONE!
